Hackberry
The hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) is a resilient, medium-to-large deciduous tree recognized for its warty, corky bark, broad crown, and small, berry-like drupes that provide excellent wildlife food. It grows best in moist, well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral loam soils but is highly adaptable, tolerating drought, wind, pollution, and a wide range of urban or rural site conditions.
