Each learning station is staffed by professionals on that subject. At each station, teams composed of 4-5 students answer questions on the subject. Since the event takes place outdoors, questions involve actual contact with natural resources, rather than a “paper and pencil” approach. After finishing at one station, the team moves on to the next station, approximately 25 minutes is spent at each station.

An oral presentation will also be part of the days activities. A situation will be given to the students in a letter that will be sent out in February. The students will have from February to April to research the situation and answer the questions asked in the form of a presentation. The day of the Envirothon the students will have 8 to 9 minutes to make the oral presentation. This oral presentation problem will be the same as the one used at the State Envirothon.

The local SE MN Envirothon takes place in early May. The top three teams from the SE competition will be eligible to compete at the State Envirothon held in mid May.
