Leann Jacobson, Amy Dessner and Eric Jacobson of Dell Farm LLC, showcase one of the many conservation practices on their Rushford, MN farm that Pine Creek flows through.

A 4th generation, Century Farm homesteaded in 1856 is 312 acres that supports a 40 cow/calf beef herd, 30 dairy steers/heifers and cash-crop operations.  Conservation has been considered a necessity on Dell Farm LLC and includes a variety of practices: contour strip farming, cover crops, residue management, grassed waterways, a grade stabilization pond, manure and nutrient management, rotational grazing and stream buffers.  The Jacobson’s recently worked with the SWCD, NRCS, DNR and Trout Unlimited on a mile long stream restoration project on Pine Creek which included special frog and turtle habitat. Their conservation ethic is also apparent with their membership in the Rush-Pine Creek Farmer Led Council. Most recently their farm has become a Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certified.

Over the years the Jacobson’s have generously donated their time, equipment and materials too many community projects such as Rushford-Peterson baseball field, track and playground; Ferndale Golf Course and Rushford Days Mutton Bustin for the kids. Their time and expertise has also been given to Fremont Creamery Board and St. Paul’s church council and committees.

"We're really proud of Leann and the late Ordell Jacobson and their children Eric Jacobson and Amy Dessner of Dell Farm LLC and what they have done for conservation in Winona County" said Lance Klessig, Winona County SWCD Resource Specialist. "The Jacobson family provides a wonderful example for conservationists by being attentive stewards of the natural resources on their picturesque SE Minnesota farm."
