The Winona County SWCD representative
will deliver the drill to the landowner, and the landowner will provide
the tractor and driver to do the planting. The SWCD representative will
assist the landowner in setting up the drill and get them started with
the planting. The SWCD also reserves the right, at their discretion,
not to allow use of the drill if the site does not meet proper site
preparation or soil conditions, or if a history of neglect of the
machine or the program exists.
Generally the no-till drill works best on old hay, grass,
or pasture that has been mowed or burned off. Additional steps should
then be followed for native grass plantings. Cropland also can be
suitable for this drill: bean stubble is ideal, corn stubble will work
best
if the stalks are chopped and removed. Tilled
ground is not recommended for this drill. Seed on tilled ground
with this no-till drill will likely be planted to deep for adequate
germination and seedling survival.
